He has been with us for the last 2 weeks. It has been an extremely good time, in which we have worked together and we have shared opinions, ways of proceeding in surgery and also human and spiritual ideals.
I think that Barry is a wonderful person and an amazing surgeon: first of all I can say that he is very humble and he has created a very conducive environment in which everybody was feeling welcome and was happy to work with him.
I have strongly admired his patience in teaching to the young volunteers and to our staff; I have never seen him upset, hot tempered or gloomy: he was always absolutely sweet and completely dedicated and available to help everybody.
Barry is also an extremely skilled surgeon and he has taught me a lot, above all in the field of thyroid surgery. I have felt accepted and always warmly encouraged in theater. I have never felt shy because Barry really appreciated my collaboration.
It is my hope that in future we may still meet here in Chaaria and work together for the good of the people and of the poor.
I take this opportunity to thank also Mary, his wife, who has worked few days in Chaaria as a nurse, and later has joined the Canadian mission in Mikinduri for the home based care in different villages.
Safe journey home to Canada, and may God bless you and reward you for what you have done for the patients of Chaaria.
