Fracture of the neck of femour

It is one of the most difficult challenges for us here in Chaaria.
Up to very recently we could do absolutely nothing, surgically speaking, apart from the old method of traction, which in itself has many complications (bed sores, DVT) and is not very effective.
But slowly we have been growing with the continuous support of Dr Luciano Cara and his group from Sardina (Italy).
Now we have dynamic cannulated screws for the head of femour; we have an affective traction system for the operation bed in theater; very importantly, we can do intra-operative radiographic controls through the fluoroscope.
Today in the morning, Bro Giancarlo was already in Meru at 6.15 am to collect Dr Nyaga.
The staff was in theater to prepare the patient and set the operation field at 6.30 am.
Antony, our medical engineer was with us to deal with the X-Ray machine during the procedure.
The operation went very well. We were able to obtain a good traction and to internally fix the difficult fracture with 2 cannulated screws, which were perfectly in position at the radiological control.

It is the second time such operation is performed in Chaaria, but it is the first time we attempt it without Dr Luciano.
The success of today has obviously been very encouraging to us.
We are very happy for the patient, who is now free from traction and has no plaster.
As usual, we are extremely grateful to Dr Nyaga, first of all for his great expertise, and then for his wonderful personality which makes any operation done with him a moment of peace and true pleasure.
