Dr Joshua Kibera is an Anatomic
Pathologist. He is a Lecturer and HOD, in the Department of Pathology, School
of Medicine and Health Sciences, at Kenya Methodist University. He is also Histopathologist
/ Cytopathologist at Pathologists Lancet Kenya and at Grace Park Medical
Centre, Meru.
Today he has visited Chaaria and he has
given us a wonderful lecture on the use of cytology.
It was extremely educative and simple in
the same time: the whole staff of the hospital has really appreciated his
teaching and everybody was so attentive.
Dr Kibera has taken us through the
importance of cytology in cancer diagnosis in general, although he has dealt
more extensively with PAP’s smear, thyroid and lymphnode FNA.
He has also promised us his full collaboration
in the field of anatomic pathology.
After class he has visited our laboratory
and he has given our technologists some indications in order to improve our
skills in collecting, preparing and fixing the samples.
Chaaria is already a cancer center, because
we do a lot of biopsies and we are also able to do something in oncological
surgery. We are sure that improving our cytology skills will sharpen our
diagnostic possibilities.
With the help of Dr Kibera, it is our hope
to start a PAP’s smear service in Chaaria.
