It is difficult for me to express my feelings today. Surely I feel very sad, but I also realize that life is like that.
After 3 months of wonderful service and cooperation, Doctor Ania Golec is about to leave Chaaria to go back to her Home Country Poland.
Ania had just finished University in Poznan, when she has come here in Cottolengo Mission Hospital: the fact of being young and humble has been for her a wonderful jumpstart for an excellent service.
Ania has never pretended to know everything; she was conscious of being inexperienced; but exactly that consciousness has helped her to learn, and to perform wonderfully for the good of the patients.
She has been a very hardworking person: from Monday to Sunday she has been in the ward looking after the sick. Very seldom she has taken some freedom for herself on Sunday afternoon, to have a walk up to Chaaria Market. In 3 months she has had only 2 outings (once to the National Park, and once to the house of Naomi).
We were together in the ward at least up to 10 p.m every single day, over the three months, because she was always available even after supper.
Ania has really helped Antonio in the management of the medical ward: Antonio was her “tutor”, and Ania has been always very good in following his instructions; furthermore, she has been carrying out most of the duties which would have been impossible for Antonio, due to lack of time.
She has got plenty of experience in the last 3 months, and I am sure she has learned a lot. On our side we have really benefited from her presence and her help.
We will really miss her… and we will never forget her.
With Ania we have become friends and living together has been sweet, with mutual respect and total understanding.
We have never had any disagreement or quarrel.
Ania has really contributed to our dream of ensuring that all the patients admitted in our hospital can see a doctor every day.
Cottolengo Mission Hospital really needs young doctors like Ania, because they are humble, simple and enthusiastic. They are able to do a lot of job which otherwise will remain unattended.
We really hope to meet her again, and we wish to have the chance to work with many other Polish doctors, with whom always we have got wonderful cooperation.
May God bless you and all your future endeavors, dear Ania. Greet all the former volunteers from Poznan.
PS: in the photo Ania is between Joseph and Lorena. The picture has been taken on 26th December 2010 in the house of Naomi
