Surgical camp for the poor patients of Marsabit

Dr Ilkul is a surgeon working in Nairobi.
He comes from a small village in Marsabit County.
Few days ago he has contacted us and he has asked if he could come one day to Chaaria to operate for free on some very poor patients of his home area.
The proposal has been so interesting and touching, because we have many patients coming from Marsabit, and also because we know that many people from that area are extremely poor.
We have made logistical arrangements for the clients to be admitted in Chaaria yesterday, so that we could be able to visit them and to do the necessary blood tests.
Dr Ilkul has reached Meru last night, after a normal working day in Nairobi.
Today, very early in the morning, we have collected him in town and we have escorted him to Chaaria, where he started his operations at 6.45 am.
Today Dr Ilkul was able to do a prostatectomy and four thyroidectomies: we have been working very well, without delays and fortunately also without complications: by 3.30 pm, Joseph already has escorted him back to Meru, so that he could reach Nairobi before night.
Working with Dr Ilkul has been a great pleasure for me and for all the theater staff: he is an extraordinary surgeon, very competent and quick; he is also a wonderful person, very kind, humble and down-to-earth.

We have been proud to collaborate with him for such a noble cause: he has come from Nairobi at his own expense, and he has operated his patients for free.
We have also been moved by the fact that Dr Ilkul has chosen Chaaria for such a wonderful initiative: what he has done today is in fact completely in line with our mission of service to the needy.
Also on behalf of the patients he has operated, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr Ilkul, and I sincerely hope to collaborate with him again in future.
It is a profound joy when Chaaria can offer its facilities to other doctors who wish to help others, out of charity and human solidarity.
May God bless Dr Ilkul and all the benefactors who put their energies, time and expertise at the service of the less fortunate!
