Actually at the moment a kg of sugar costs more than a kg of meat in Kenya.
This is just one example of a terrible trend to a continuous increase of the prices, above all for the basic commodities.
One litre of diesel for our cars and for the generator costs the same as in Italy, but in Kenya the salaries are 4 times lower.
To buy a loaf of bread people today pay more than double compared to six months ago.
Everything is more and more expensive. Before we have been told that it is because of the war in Lybia, from where most of our crude oli comes. Now we hear that the reason of the spiraling cost of living is to be fond in the financial crisis keeping Europe at a stand still.
Whatever the reason, life is unbearable for many poor people: many cannot go to hospital; others cannot pay school fees.
Even for us in the hospital it is very difficult: apart from the price of fuel, even electricity, drugs, food for patients, medical reagents, gloves are becoming unbearably expensive.
We do not want to increase the prices, because our hospital is for the poor, but it is not easy, even considering the difficult economical situation of our donors in Italy, who are facing a terrible financial recession.
Once again, we are in the hands of Divine Providence, who knows what the future has in store for us.
