An article on the East African Medical Journal

On the November issue of the East African Medical Journal, there will be a case report written by me and Dr Carlo Lanza, a dear friend of mine living and practicing in Switzerland.

I am very grateful to the editorial board of the Journal for considering our short article and for publishing it: it is the second time that I have the honour of writing on the East African Medical Journal.
I am especially grateful to my dear friend, Dr Carlo Lanza, for the great help he has given me in editing the material I had presented to him. It is another example of collaboration beyond borders, of which I am very proud.
The article will be available in paper and also online.
In 2014 Cottolengo Mission Hospital has been able to publish 3 articles on international medical journals: two were dealing with dermatological issues and were published on the Community Dermatology Journal, while the present one concerns urological challenges, as you can see from the abstract I have attached in the photo.
The academic and scientific efforts are always an integral part of our commitment in Chaaria, and I hope to be able to publish even more next year… and I always count on the help of my friend Dr Lanza.

Chaaria è un sogno da realizzare giorno per giorno.

Un luogo in cui vorrei che tutti i poveri e gli ammalati venissero accolti e curati.

Vorrei poter fare di più per questa gente, che non ha nulla e soffre per malattie facilmente curabili, se solo ci fossero i mezzi.

Vorrei smetterla di dire “vai altrove, perché non possiamo curarti”.

Anche perché andare altrove, qui, vuol dire aggiungere altra fatica, altro sudore, altro dolore, per uomini, donne e bambini che hanno già camminato per giorni interi.

E poi, andare dove?

Gli ospedali pubblici hanno poche medicine, quelli privati sono troppo costosi.

Ecco perché penso, ostinatamente, che il nostro ospedale sia un segno di speranza per questa gente. Non ci sarà tutto, ma facciamo il possibile. Anzi, l’impossibile.

Quello che mi muove, che ci muove, è la carità verso l’altro, verso tutti. Nessuno escluso.

Gesù ci ha detto di essere presenti nel più piccolo e nel più diseredato.

Questo è quello che facciamo, ogni giorno.
